EDUCATION IS GOVERNOR DUCEY'S TOP 2017 PRIORITY

Saying public education is his key focus in 2017, Governor Doug Ducey reiterated his State of the State address Friday in Yuma.  Ducey said his budget includes new public funds, funding beyond what is coming from passage of Proposition 123 last spring.

During the Proposition's campaign, the Governor called it a first step for education in the state.  During his State of the State Friday he outlined 15 additional proposals, ranging from signing bonuses for teachers in low income schools to paying teacher student debt.  But the Governor does not want Federal involvement.................................................

But while the Governor wants the Feds out of Arizona's schools, he would not mind some additional Federal money.  Speaking after his address, the Governor said he's hopeful the new Trump Administration can help out.....................................................................................................................

The Governor would like to expand Full Day Kindergarten to low income schools in the state.  Ducey said he would like to see funding for schools where 90% or more of the students qualify for free or reduced cost lunches.
