AZED-The date palm is one the oldest cultivated fruit tree in the world. The fruit is very common in the Middle East where it has been cultivated there for nearly 6,000 years.
The date palm was first introduced into the Bard Valley in 1948 and since then date farms have sprouted in areas with hot dry climates.
There are thousands of varieties of dates grown around the globe but the Medjool date is one of the most popular dates.
KAWC’s Stephanie Sanchez visited a date farm in Yuma to see how the a date is produced.
