Should AZ eliminate income tax?

Should Arizona reform the state tax code by eliminating the personal income tax?   Some economists at Arizona State University say that is exactly what the state should do.

A recent editorial and new research at ASU’s Center for the Study of Economic Freedom suggest residents and small business owners would be better off without a personal income tax, but critics say revenue alternatives for state coffers could disproportionately impact the poor.

Dr. Scott Beaulier is the Center’s executive director and author of the Arizona Capital Times op-ed, "Income Tax is Toxic to Arizona’s Economy".  He tells KAWC’s Lou Gum there are some compelling arguments to be made for eliminating the state income tax…

Lou grew up in Tucson and has a long family history in the state of Arizona. He began his public radio career in 1988 at KNAU in Flagstaff as a classical music DJ and has been hooked on public radio since, transitioning to news after trying his hand at several other careers in publishing and commercial broadcasting. Lou has a degree in American Studies from Arizona State University and was KAWC's Morning Edition host for two and half years before becoming News and Operations Director.
